On behalf of the Brazilian Society of Immunology, we are pleased to invite you to attend our XLII Annual Meeting, which will be held in Salvador, State of Bahia, Brazil, from October 2nd to 6th, 2017.
The congress venue was changed to Hotel Deville to provide the participants more flexibility in accommodation in a time when funds for research and scientific activities in the country are short. Salvador is a wonderful choice since it unites a necessary range of options for hotels with a beautiful landscape and a rich cultural environment for our meeting.
This edition of SBI Congress will be dedicated to the topic of Mucosal Immunology.
Mucosal Immunology has been, until recently, a marginal field in Immunology even though mucosal surfaces represent our major interface with the environment and they lodge the largest collection of lymphoid cells in the body. In the past ten years this scenario changed after the discoveries on the critical role of intestinal microbiota and dietary components not only in inflammatory bowel diseases but also in autoimmune diseases, allergies, obesity and even neurologic disorders such as autism. All these reports caught the attention of immunologists and the field experienced an enormous growth.
The XLII Congress of the Brazilian Society of Immunology will gathertop-notch research leaders from Brazil and from 15 other countries to discuss the most important basic and translational advances on this fascinating field.
The Scientific Program will cover several aspects of Mucosal Immunology such as mucosal immune responses, microbiota and its impact on human diseases, immunological effects of probiotics and dietary components, mucosal vaccines, mucosal infections and tumors, mucosal inflammatory diseases, immune-regulatory effects of oral tolerance and of compounds produced by gut microbiota.
Our event will also host the 10th Extra-section on Clinical Immunology and the 2nd Meeting of the recently created Latin American Mucosal Immunology Group (LAMIG).
This edition of SBI congress will pay a special tribute to women researchers that are either pioneers or young talents on any field of Immunology in our country. Two awards will be granted to senior and junior women scientists as an acknowledgment for their contribution to research in Immunology.
